Hacienda Barrigona has so far been the most luxury hotel we visited in Costa Rica. It’s situated in the Guanacaste province in the Nicoya Peninsula, less than an hour drive from the cities of Samara and Nosara. How do I define luxury? Privacy, limited wifi, breathtaking setting, and kind people.
Unlike other hotels we visited, Hacienda Barrigona is a private property comprised of three villas, large pool, 24/7 security guards, house for yoga sessions and a separate eating area/ restaurant located just a few minutes walk from the villas. As there were no other visitors during our stay, we had the biggest villa to ourselves and it felt like a dream.
Besides the location and setting, it’s the people who made it so special. All of them were local, with a big heart and a constant smile. Flor cooks for visitors traditional Costa Rican wholehearted food while Juan-Carlos, the majordomo, will take care of all your needs.
The hacienda has private access to the beach (imagine white sand & no people) but we spent most of our time in the pool as it was too hot and the sun too harsh to sit on the beach. And honestly, for Chloe-Sofia, having the pool and floaties to herself was a dream come true.
With so much privacy and peace, it felt like the second honeymoon. And even though I was scared at night (I am not used to sleeping in a huge house alone), I would still go back to catch up with Flor and Juan-Carlos who made our holiday so special.
