If you are ready to reduce the amount of meat you eat, watch some inspiring food documentaries. There are countless on YouTube and Netflix, but I especially enjoyed Forks over Knives and Gamechangers.

Although I know that being vegan is the most sustainable way of eating, I am not vegan nor vegetarian. When I was growing up, my mom was vegetarian. From time to time, she would make chicken for my father and my sister, who felt special. But we never ate red meat. And even now, if you asked me to choose between plant-based and beef burger, I would go for the first option.

At the same time, since we have a five-year-old daughter, I prefer if she gets used to eating everything. If she wants to become vegan or vegetarian, she can choose herself when she’s older.

But to make the story short, if you feel like you’d like to include more plant-based meals in your diet, here are some tips.

Switch your usual breakfast for a homemade green smoothie.

Or try to make a plant-based steak from quinoa and red beans (here is a recipe in French that we tried and loved). Or this vegetarian recipe for Red-Bean Burgers with Avocado and Lime according to Martha Stewart.

If you live in Switzerland, Migros and COOP food stores carry ready-made vegetarian and vegan meals. I like the Cornatur Quorn line available at Migros.

What does the term drawdown stand for? “Drawdown is the future point in time when levels of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere stop climbing and start to steadily decline. This is the point when we begin the process of stopping further climate change and averting potentially catastrophic warming” –
