Our Unique Christmas Guide Featuring Swiss Black-Owned Businesses

In this article, I want to share with you some Swiss brands and companies that are owned by black women (and one by a man). This Christmas guide featuring Swiss black-owned businesses includes only the brands that I tried or that were recommended to me. If you know a brand that should be on the list, leave me a comment below.

After I published my list of sustainable Christmas gift ideas for 2020, I realized that none of the brands was owned by a woman (or a man) of color. Black-owned businesses are not equally represented in sustainable /zero-waste stores that I visit. Unless you go to a specialized African store or to a black hairdresser that uses products made by a small local business, it is hard to find them. The same applies to fashion and jewelry designers. You have to look for them online as you won’t find them in a department store like Manor or Globus.

M.I.C.I Made in Côte d’Ivoire

A Geneva-based fashion brand that I have loved for 6 years now. I like the prints, the quality, and that I always feel unique.

OWN BROWN

My favorite brand of nude underwear for women of color. Great quality, chic, and elegance. Available on ownbrown.com. Offers 30% off upon signing up for the newsletter.

THE BLOSSOM SHOP

I tried the Detangling Conditioner, Zero-Waste hair mask, and Masque Super Intense and really liked them. The Zero-Waste Hair Mask is not available online but if you want to try it, just send them an email to inquire and several products for natural and curly hair and really liked them. They are natural and handmade. Now they also offer handmade body products and hair accessories. Available on blossomshop.ch.

IVANNY ROSE

I discovered this brand online and their Purifying black soap looks wonderful. It would be a great Christmas present as well. Check it out on Ivannyrose.com.

SAVONNERIE SHEANAYNAY

Recommended by Mariétou (the designer behind M.I.C.I Made in Côte d’Ivoire fashion brand). Their soaps are made via a natural, cold process and available via their website or Instagram account @sheynaynay_geneve.

CURL SANCTUARY by Charlotte Noire

My favorite hairdresser in Geneva. not only that she is fun and smart, but she also takes amazing care of my hair and her salon is b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l! You can give a session in her salon as an original present to a family member or a friend. Book online on charlottenoire.com.
