This spring I decided to create my first capsule wardrobe by following the rules of Project 333. It means that you can wear only 33 articles for the next three months. The 33 pieces include shoes, accessories, jewelry, and clothing. You don’t include underwear, sleepwear, in-home loungewear, workout clothing, and wedding rings.
Since I live in Switzerland, which is cold between March and May, my 33 pieces include warm clothes and shoes. As my parents always say: “It is better to be warm. You can always take one layer off.”
Once I chose the 33 items, I stored the rest in the storage bags or the garment bag. I like to use storage bags for storing clothes and when I need to save space in a suitcase. It makes a significant difference.
I took this opportunity to have my shoes resoled. It is a little trick that can extend the life of your shoes. I paid ninety Swiss francs, which is equivalent to ninety dollars for both these shoes but it was worth it since now they look like new.
What are the benefits of creating a capsule wardrobe?
First, It is easy and quick to get dressed in the morning. Second, if you choose items that you can mix and match easily, you will always look polished. I admit that I am not good at creating outfits with matching colors and mixing prints. I am so bad at finding colors that fit my skin tone that I prefer to ask my mom for advice. She has an eye for that.
She helped me to choose the right color palette. I am a warm autumn. I printed the colors that I should wear on a piece of paper and keep it in my wallet.
When I am in a second-hand store or shop online, I always check if I buy colors that suit me. It’s the safest way to avoid buying something that looks like a great idea when I am in the store, but I would never wear it.
Also, it helps me to look elegant and well put together.
