Can a simple gesture such as saying hello, thank you or helping an old person cross the street make a difference? I believe it can. Especially in the current society where many people want to get as much as they can while making as little effort as possible. In order to reach their short-term and superfluous goals, they are interested in learning how to corrupt, manipulate and take advantage of others. Collaborating and sharing seem like dirty words. And those who advocate for them are seen as weak and soft.

Nevertheless, we can’t complain about others if we behave the same. That is why small, simple gestures matter. You never know how big impact you will make. Next time, when you ask someone how they are doing, mean it. Notice how often your mind wanders away when someone talks to you. Try to be present and listen.

Is it just me or the whole society that suffers from short attention span? Is it a side-effect of spending too much time on social media and our mobile phones instead of talking to somebody in person or reading a book? Instead of focusing on showing off and comparing ourselves to others, we should try to connect and relate to one another.

  • When you wake up, find something to be grateful for. It can be your family, health, your partner or just the fact of being alive.
  • Smile or say hello to a stranger without expecting anything in return.
  • Help someone open the door or carry their heavy bag.

Even if these gestures won’t make you wealthy, they will make you feel better. If we all make one simple gesture a day, we could change the World, don’t you think?
