When we decided to go to Costa Rica one of the first things I started to do was looking for sunscreens. I use sunscreen every day (even in winter) as I don’t believe that just because my skin is darker I don’t have to protect myself. Besides skin cancer, unprotected sun exposure is the main cause of aging. I knew that we would spent most of the time by the sea so I chose sunscreens with SPF 50+.
In Costa Rica we bought a 2-piece swimsuit with UPF +50 sun protection for Chloe-Sofia. I was looking for a top with long sleeves but they did not have it in her size. So I reapplied sunscreen every time we got out of water (even if the sunscreen was water-resistant). I can’t find the same swimsuit online but if you are interested, this one is lovely as well (and with sun protection).
Most of the time I used Anthelios XL SPF 50+ with UVB+UVA protection from La Roche-Posay. It does not contain parabens and is water resistant. I like the fragrance and it soaks in pretty fast. Your skin feels velvety soft. Even Chloe-Sofia did not protest and she hates when we put creams on her.
Alex thinks that I am obsessed with sunscreens but skin cancer is real and people should start taking it seriously. That being said, if your hubby resembles mine, make sure to have Cicaplast Baume B5 at home. When Alex burnt his back (he did not protect himself with any sunscreen), it helped to calm the skin and rejuvenate it.
I also used to spray thermal water on Chloe-Sofia when it was too hot and stuffy. She did not like it at first but as soon as she got used to it she found it funny.
After his bad experience, Alex started using Ideal Soleil sunscreens from Vichy with SPF30+ (with UVB + UVA protection). It soaks in fast and you don’t even notice that you applied sunscreen. It is without parabens, water-resistant and sand resistant. For this reason I wanted to use it on Chloe-Sofia but she preferred La Roche-Posay. So she was always covered in sand.
When we were in San José, I used Line Interception Power Duo. I use it in Geneva on daily basis. It is La Prairie’s new anti-ageing day and night cream with SPF30+ and PA+++*.
*While PA indicates the level of protection from UVA rays (the more +, the higher the protection), SPF indicates level of protection from UVB rays.
I like that the Line Interception Power Duo protects my skin while reducing appearance of wrinkles. My complexion looks plum and moisturized. With its pleasant fragrance and silky texture it became my favorite face cream. It is quite pricey but effective. And you can see that I really like it when I took it with me all the way to Costa Rica.
