TRANSITIONAL STYLE & A GOOD OLD TRENCH COAT

CATEGORY: FASHION

beige trench coatIt is no news that transitional style, as the name suggests, is directly contingent on the time of the year and weather. Instead of changing your whole wardrobe though, try investing in a piece that is both timeless and elegant. And I agree that with the surfeit of clothes in the stores it can seem daunting. You want something that will remain in style longer than one season and flatter you no matter your age or physical condition (for example, if you get pregnant or lose weight). Would you agree that a good trench coat is a smart investment? It is universally flattering and appropriate for work, school and even leisure time. It looks great with just about a-n-y-t-h-i-n-g: sneakers, heels and even flip-flops. If flip-flops in fall are your thing, of course.

Another good thing about trench coats is that you can get them everywhere. Some high-street stores offer such a good quality that they can easily compete with well-known designer brands.

I got my first trench coat in my twenties while I was studying in London. Sienna Miller was the It-girl of the moment and we were all copying her style. She was a beautiful actress that was dating Jude Law and no matter what she wore she always looked perfect. After seeing a photo of her in sand-colored Burberry trench, I went to Oxford street and got mine in GAP.

When I moved to Geneva, I got a beige, princess style trench coat in one of the department stores. It carried me through my ups and downs, falls and springs and everything in between. Then I got pregnant and could not fit in it anymore. When my belly reached its peak, I found the one that you can see in today’s photos. It has a waterproof finish and a generous cut that can easily hide your growing belly (or later your baby in a baby wrap).

And what trench coat am I dreaming about currently? A classic, double-breasted one from Burberry (with a belt) or this minimalist one from The Row. They are both perfect even if a bit too pricey, don’t you think?
