Have you seen Ashley Graham modeling her lingerie line at New York Fashion Week? It was m-e-m-o-r-a-b-l-e, to say the least. I started following her after she became the poster child for self-love. Her inspirational talks resonated with me when I gained weight during pregnancy. In the world obsessed with skinny bodies, she made way for models of bigger sizes than double 00. She inspired me to look at my body and try to appreciate it. Which, after giving birth, was really difficult because I expected to bounce back almost immediately.
The other day I was in the process of buying a new pair of jeans. I could not fit in my usual size and had to go to two sizes up. What surprised me was that after all the New Age self-love that I have practiced lately, I was still hesitant to buy them. Why? Because of the number that was written in the back.
I am well aware that each brand has different cuts and sizing, especially when it comes to jeans. And I always found it challenging to find the right pair. Diesel, Levi’s or Reply never fit me. I am more of JBrand or Citizens of Humanity girl. But they are much more expensive than the high-street brand I was trying on. And since I had Chloe-Sofia, I can’t justify to myself spending so much on a pair of jeans. Handbag? Yes. But not clothes.
So did I buy the jeans? Yes, I did. And you know why? Because they make my bum look really good and as Ashley Graham says:
It is not about the size you wear but how you wear it.
Amen to that!
