One of the drinks my mom used to brew at home was Kombucha tea. It is an effervescent, slightly fermented drink made of tea, sugar, white vinegar and active Kombucha culture also known as “SCOBY” ( symbiotic colony of healthy bacteria and yeast). Kombucha culture resembles a gelatinous pancake. It has a smooth texture and is often compared to a mushroom. Anyone can make the tea at home as the brewing process is quite simple. We used to drink it on and off for many years depending on the time of the year and our health. Kombucha tea is believed to have many healing qualities and my mom made it every time our immunity was low. Did it work? Or was it just a placebo effect? I can’t say.
I have been eating Chia and Hemp seeds for years. Am I healthier than my husband who does not even know what the term Superfoods mean? Errrr, he would not agree. I would say that only the time will tell. I am one of those types who can live on green smoothies, nuts and berries and dreams of becoming a Breatharian. So if you ask me whether I believe in health benefits of Kombucha tea, I will say yes. Not to mention that I really like the slightly sour taste of Kombucha tea.
When I decided to try Urban Kombucha, I was a bit cautious. I tried several different brands that are on the Swiss market but they always tasted too vinegary. But I was pleasantly surprised. Urban Kombucha tastes more like a fizzy drink than homemade Kombucha tea. It is available in several flavors that make it even more refreshing. And as you serve it cold, it is the perfect healthy fizzy drink for summer.
And what are the flavors?
- Lemongrass & Hibiscus (Citronnelle & Hibiscus in French)- very refreshing, light and slightly sweet taste. I like this one the most.
- Green Tea & Ginger (Thé Vert & Gingembre in French)- refreshing and tastes a lot like ginger.
- Green Tea & Peppermint (Thé Vert & Menthe Poivrée) – light, refreshing and with a nice touch of peppermint.
