What is your Easter tradition? I like the Swiss Easter tradition where you hide chocolate eggs in the garden and let children search for them.

In the Czech Republic, on the other hand, men walk around the village with whips made of six ( or eight) willow rods called a pomlázka. They ring at the door and spank every woman in the house while reciting a poem. All you can do as a women is to throw a bucket of cold water on them before they start. The real meaning of spanking is to let your energy run through your body so that you don’t “dry up”. After spanking, women “reward” men with hand-colored eggs. I find this custom brutal. In fact, I always found it strange that people consider it fun to beat women and to expect to be rewarded afterwards.

So what Easter customs do you follow? Do you also hide chocolate eggs in the garden or run around with a bucket of cold water?

“Easter Eggs”

Easter eggs,
Pink, green and blue,
Easter eggs,
For me and you.

Easter eggs,
Candy sweet,
Easter eggs,
Are good to eat.

Easter eggs,
Pretty and funny,

But…
WHERE OH WHERE IS THE EASTER BUNNY?
