Why Doing A Detox Now Is A Good Idea

CATEGORY: BEAUTY

detox this winterWhen I was in my twenties, I thought that the best time for a detox is before the bikini season or after Christmas. In other words, I understood detox as a quick fix after uncontrolled period of some type of excessive behavior. Eating too much sugar or fatty foods, drinking alcohol or partying until wee hours of the day. Yes, I was very busy in my twenties.

I thought that a detox and fasting were the same. They seemed boring and definitely not fun. Every time I tried to do a detox, even if it was only for a day, I was craving the exact foods and drinks that I was curing my body from. I hated doing it and I hated my body at the same time. I wanted to change it, I did not want to accept it the way it was, being it color of my skin, my legs, thighs or curly hair. All this was another reason why I found detoxing so mentally and physically painful.

It was only when I changed my perception of a detox that I started enjoying it. Several years ago I did a silent retreat in the South of India. It was intense and memorable. For 10 days I meditated all day and did not talk to anyone. It changed my life. Slowly, I began seeing my body and food issues in a different light. It took several years to heal fully but if I did not change my mind, I would still suffer from an eating disorder. Or I would replace it with a different addiction to fill the void inside. The more I meditated, the more the void diminished.

When you feel empty, when you sense that something in your life is missing, we tend to look for an easy fix. Food, alcohol, drugs, gambling, sex just to name few, all can be misused and turn into an addiction.

Now, if I decide to do a detox, it is because I want to give my body a rest. Not to loose weight or look 10 years younger. And I started to enjoy the whole process of detoxing. I know that I do something good for my body and that I do it out of love. And yes, I still like that my belly looks less bloated, my skin is brighter, my eyes cleaner and my mind clearer.

In short, and in bullet points, bellow are five reasons to do a detox before winter starts that may inspire you to do a detox this season:

  • to take care of your skin
  • increase your energy levels
  • remove toxins from your body
  • lose a bit of weight
  • bring balance to your body
