Cold breeze and the first snow- that is what this week has been about. In fact, it is not so cold. +1 Degree above Celsius means that it is not freezing yet and it will still get colder. It is just the fact that after hot summer and long, warm autumn, you feel as if you are about to freeze once the temperature drops a bit. I do prefer warmer weather but winter has also its perks- snow, skiing, sledging, mulled wine, cheese fondue, sitting in front of the fireplace at my parents house, celebrating Christmas with my family, playing table games or building a snowman in the garden.
In our family, we used to bake Christmas sweets with my mom already at the end of November. She would store them in paper boxes in cellar as the the cold environment made them softer. I loved baking the sweets and eating them, still hot, off the tray. Decorating our Christmas tree was my sister’s task. I did not have enough patience for that. My dad would put up the tree in the living room and supervise my sister while she was climbing up and down. As you can see, reminiscing about the good old days is my favorite Christmas pastime (besides playing table games and getting angry when I lose to my sister).
What Christmas traditions did your family have? Are you also nostalgic at this time?
P.S. Happy Thanksgiving to all my American readers!
